Organic
Organic stands for coffee from certified organic farming. This means:
- The coffee plants are grown without chemical pesticides or synthetic fertilizers.
- The soil is treated carefully to help preserve its natural fertility.
- Organic coffee is often labeled with the EU organic seal or other organic certifications.
Demeter
Demeter is the highest level of organic certification and stands for biodynamic farming. This means:
- The cultivation follows not only organic guidelines, but also the principles of biodynamics.
- Special methods are used to support the ecological balance (e.g. natural cycles, the use of preparations).
- Demeter certification is particularly strict and is checked regularly.
Fairtrade
Fairtrade is a label for fair trade. This means:
- Coffee farmers receive a minimum price above the world market price.
- In addition, there is a Fairtrade premium for community projects (e.g. schools).
- Working conditions are monitored according to social and ethical standards.
Important:
Many coffees can also carry several of these labels at the same time, for example Organic and Fairtrade. This allows you to choose according to your personal values.
